Commissioner Frank Jewell reappointed to state Clean Water Council

WASHINGTON, D.C. – July 2, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — St. Louis County Commissioner Frank Jewell has been reappointed by Governor Mark Dayton to serve on the Minnesota Clean Water Council. Jewell is one of two county commissioners in the state to serve on the Council, and has done so since 2011. His re-appointment is for another four-year term.

The Clean Water Council was established in 2006 to advise the Legislature and Governor on the administration and implementation of the Clean Water Legacy Act. The 28-member Council is responsible for reporting on how money from the Clean Water Fund has been spent, and how future money should be appropriated. The Council also considers scientific research on efforts to protect and restore groundwater and the impact of impaired waters on communities.

“It is an honor to be re-appointed to serve on the Clean Water Council,” said Jewell. “St. Louis County is blessed to be rich in water, but we cannot take that for granted, and so I’m excited to be able to continue working to resolve water resource challenges and improve water quality throughout the state.”

Jewell was elected to the County Board in 2010, representing the first district, which includes the central portion of Duluth. His interest in the environment and clean water stems from 40 years of using the lakes, streams and woodlands of northeastern Minnesota. He also chairs the Heart of the Continent Partnership, a Canadian/American coalition of land managers and local stakeholders working together on cross-border projects that promote the economic, cultural and natural health of the lakes, forests and communities on the Minnesota/Ontario border
