Federal Reserve Board appoints Tingerthal to newly-created Community Advisory Council

ST. PAUL, MN – September 23, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — The Federal Reserve Board on Tuesday announced the appointment of Minnesota Housing Finance Agency (MHFA) Commissioner Mary Tingerthal to the newly-created Community Advisory Council (CAC). Commissioner Tingerthal is one of only 15 members nationwide selected to advise the Federal Reserve Board on the economic circumstances and financial services needs of low- and middle-income consumers and communities.

“Commissioner Mary Tingerthal is a superb leader of the Minnesota Housing Finance Agency,” said Governor Mark Dayton. “I hear again and again that she is the best housing commissioner in the country, and I agree. She has helped thousands of Minnesota families afford homes in our state. I know she will provide that same exceptional leadership in advising the Federal Reserve Board on the economic challenges facing Americans today.”

The CAC was formed by the Federal Reserve Board in 2015 to offer diverse perspectives on the unique economic challenges facing lower- and middle-income Americans. The CAC will complement the Board’s other advisory councils, and will meet semiannually with members of the Federal Reserve Board of Governors in Washington, D.C.
“I’m pleased that the Federal Reserve Board has established a council to advise them on what is happening on the ground in communities across the country,” said Commissioner Tingerthal. “I am proud to serve as a member of the council and share what we know about what works here in Minnesota.”

“Commissioner Mary Tingerthal is considered one of the best housing commissioners in America. Our communities are well-served by her exemplary leadership,” said Lt. Governor Tina Smith. “As a member of the Federal Reserve Board’s Community Advisory Council, Commissioner Tingerthal will provide a valuable perspective as the Board tackles many critical issues facing Minnesota and the nation.”

Governor Dayton appointed Mary Tingerthal to serve as commissioner of the MHFA in January 2011. Tingerthal brings both public and private sector experience to the MHFA, as well as a deep understanding of the issues surrounding affordable housing development, preservation, and finance. Commissioner Tingerthal is nationally recognized for her work in housing and finance, serving on the Boards of the National Council of State Housing Agencies, the National Housing Trust, and the National Community Investment Fund. She has also served on the Fannie Mae Affordable Housing Advisory Council, and the investment committee of the Calvert Foundation.
