Washington, D.C. - August 2, 2012 - (RealEstateRama) -- U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar announced that her bipartisan legislation to help fight homelessness among America’s veterans has passed the House and Senate and is headed to the President’s desk to be signed into law. Klobuchar obtained 18 Democratic and Republican cosponsors for the bill in the Senate. The legislation improves homeless services outreach to rural and underserved urban veterans. Specifically, it strengthens an existing program that provides chronically homeless veterans with housing vouchers and case management services, such as help accessing counseling and job training.
VA Secretary Shinseki and Congressman Walz Highlight Unique Needs of Rural Vets Population
Mankato, MI - September 6, 2010 - (RealEstateRama) -- U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric K. Shinseki joined Congressman Tim Walz today in Mankato to tour facilities dedicated to rural veterans’ health care and homelessness prevention. The Secretary and Congressman heard from veterans about the need to build upon existing VA services and further expand health care in rural areas. The tour began at the VA’s Mankato Community-Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC), which currently does not provide primary health care services to area veterans. The VA is in the midst of the contracting process to expand the CBOC to include these much-needed services. The tour concluded with a stop at the Radichel Townhomes in Mankato. The townhomes are long-term supportive housing for disabled homeless veterans constructed and managed by the Minnesota Assistance Council for Veterans (MAC-V)
Time Capsule from 1934 Found at Minneapolis Veterans Home
July 7, 2009 - (RealEstateRama) — The Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs, together with members of the Veterans community, will open a time capsule from 1934 during the cornerstone removal ceremony of historic building 9 at the Minneapolis Veterans Home Tuesday, July 7 at 10:30 a.m. The original cornerstone is dated at the start of construction, Nov. 11, 1934. Completed in 1937, building 9 was constructed almost entirely by hand over a span of nearly three years.
