Mankato, MN – February 19, 2016 – (RealEstateRama) — U.S. Rep. Tim Walz (D-MN) toured the School Sisters of Notre Dame solar farm located atop Good Counsel Hill and discussed how important investing in renewable energy is to meeting America’s energy demands, creating jobs and addressing the threats posed by climate change.

“This project is the perfect example of how public-private partnerships help Minnesota continue to lead the next generation of American energy production and the fight for energy independence, said Rep. Walz. “Whether at the federal or state level, government can and should play a supporting role in empowering communities like the School Sisters in owning their energy future.”

Completed in 2015 as the result of a partnership between School Sister’s and Xcel Energy, the $1.7 million solar project is Mankato’s current largest solar farm. Installed by Minnesota-based Best Power International, it consists of about twenty seven hundred and eighty four panels, the installation of which created about a dozen jobs. The site is estimated to generate enough clean energy to power a hundred American homes for a whole year with little to no negative environmental impact.
