at the annual meetings of the Minnesota Farm Bureau and the Minnesota Farmers Union, Governor Mark Dayton will announce his plans to convene a statewide Water Quality Summit in February. The summit will focus public attention on the serious challenges facing Minnesota’s water supplies – in both rural and urban areas of the state – and continue statewide dialogue around steps that must be taken to address those challenges. The summit will include water quality experts, farmers, legislators, regulators, the business community, members of the public, local leaders, and a wide variety of other stakeholders.

DNR taking further steps to reduce risk of starry stonewort spread

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is taking additional measures in response to the discovery of starry stonewart in Lake Koronis, Stearns County. The DNR will treat the invasive algae in front of the main public access at Lake Koronis, as part of an expanded effort to reduce the risk that it will spread to other bodies of water.

DNR seeks applications for OHV grants

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is seeking applications for grants to support off-highway vehicle (OHV) trail projects and new trail proposals. Application forms for projects on existing trails are due to a Parks and Trails Division area supervisor’s office each year by Nov. 30.
