U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar made a stop in Marshall Wednesday during her Connecting Minnesota tour focused on improving workforce development and expanding access to broadband in rural areas. City leaders met with Klobuchar at the Southwest Minnesota Regional Airport to discuss the region's infrastructure needs.
DNR encourages rural homeowners to be ‘Firewise’
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is encouraging rural homeowners to become “Firewise” to reduce the risks of wildfires to their homes. “Now is an excellent time to evaluate and take home wildfire prevention steps while homeowners are clearing woodlots, cutting firewood or removing downed or dying trees from around their homes,” said Linda Gormanson, DNR wildfire prevention supervisor.
Straight River Groundwater Management Area public meetings slated for Aug. 25
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is hosting two public meetings in August to present and take comments on the Straight River Groundwater Management Area draft plan. The plan describes actions the DNR will take over the next five years in the proposed groundwater management area.
West River Parkway resurfacing begins tomorrow in downtown Minneapolis
Starting tomorrow, Aug. 12, West River Parkway from Plymouth Avenue to Portland Avenue in downtown Minneapolis will close to traffic so crews can remove and replace the driving surface. The parkway will reopen for weekend traffic Friday evening, Aug. 14 and then close again 6 a.m. Monday, Aug. 17. Weather permitting, the resurfacing work will be completed by Tuesday, Aug. 18.

U.S. Senators Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) and John Hoeven (R-ND) today announced that their provision based on their Nonprofit Energy Efficiency Act to help nonprofit organizations save money on energy efficiency upgrades passed the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources as part of a comprehensive energy package. Since nonprofits are tax-exempt entities, they cannot currently benefit from many energy support programs because the programs are often structured in the form of tax credits.
